Some Malawian gospel artists have cried foul over the distribution of the cash donation Transport and Publics works minister, Sidik Mia presented to artists who curtain raised the launch of Kamuzu Barracks CCAP Singer’s album in Blantyre.

Mia gave renowned gospel artist Ethel Kamwendo-Banda K100,000, and K300,000 to other supporting artists, but controversy erupted over the cash with some artist accusing George Adams, who was the director of ceremonies during the album launch, of cheating them on the money.

Adams, who works for Calvary Family Church radio as a presenter, is alleged to have told some musicians, mostly upcoming gospel artists that they were sidelined because they were not on the programme, and that they were just ‘new kids in gospel circles’.

However, Adams told The Daily Times that he was advised to distribute the money to artists who were on the programme and he gave each of the supporting artists K50,000.

“Artists who did not receive the money were not on the programme and were just given the opportunity to perform because they asked to be given a chance to show their solidarity with Kamuzu Barracks,” he said.

This is not the first time for up and coming gospel artists to accuse directors of ceremonies and fellow musicians, especially the so called established musicians of duping and sidelining them during such events.
