The Malawi Achievers Awards have become the biggest event for the diaspora and they are helping promotion of Malawi’s identity and culture in the United Kingdom, the Malawi High Commission has said.

The organisers of Malawi Achievers Awards UK[/caption]
Representative of the mission Kondwani Munthali said the awards bring together Malawians to award and recognise contributions from various Malawians in the diaspora community who have worked hard in various fields.
“Over 100 people were nominated this year, these are 100 ambassadors of Malawi in the UK in various fields in various fields and sectors,” he said.
Munthali also said Malawi government has now referred the issue of the dual citizenship to the Law Commission which will led the consultation process that will culminate into a decision as to which direction the country should take in response to Malawians in the diaspora.
Speaking earlier Chairperson of the Malawi Association UK, Martin Guga said the wards continue to recognise Malawians in various fields as one way of thanking them for the noble work in the communities.
CEO of the Awards Stepson Mbewe and Coordinator Felix Banda said since their inception in 2014, the awards have grown in patronage and nominations that more partners are willing to support the annual events as a permanent programme of the MAUK.
The Life Time Achiever award was presented to writer Walije Gondwe and the other recipients are academic achiever of the year, Dr Malawi Ngwira a lecture at Glasgow Caledonian University, Against All Odds charity,
Nyasa Times online received ‘special recognition award’ for the 10 years anniversary which CEO Edgar Chibaka disclosed will be celebrated with a Banquent on August 27 at Leeds Hilton Hotel.
Other awards went to ‘rising star’ Jeremy Winsten, a Malawian born who has joined Manchester City academy. Malawi Queen group, Miss Malawi UK, comedian Dailitso Chaponda were some recognised for their achievements.
