Few weeks after it was announced that the Miss Blantyre beauty pageant was back after a one-year break, the event is set for its launch on Friday, 14 August.

It has also been confirmed that auditions will be conducted on the 15th and 16th August to identify the girls who will compete for the title in October.
The launch will be conducted at an open show at Chilomoni’s Nthukwa market where there will be live music performances from Saint, Bless Kay, Excess and Royal Fam. Poetry performances will also be part of the event.
Miss Blantyre chairperson Daniel Ngwira described the launch as a landmark.
“It is a sign of commitment by the Miss Blantyre team and how things will be done,’ explained Ngwira.
Ngwira called upon all interested girls with modeling passion from across Blantyre city to come forward and register for the competition.
“We are calling upon all ladies from Blantyre who feel and are comfortable to be the face of Blantyre. The auditions are set for two days to accommodate as many hopefuls as we can,” Ngwira added.
Miss Blantyre has partnered with the Blantyre City Council to ensure that the youth are involved in developmental activities than remaining dormant.
The launch will also be graced by the Metics Dance Crew and Chilomoni Dance Crew. There will also be some giveaways.
Later that night, Miss Blantyre launch will be celebrated at a red carpet after-party at Bassment Club in Blantyre from 9pm.
The reigning Miss Blantyre is Nerani Nthara, who won the crown on December 6, 2013. It is yet to be seen what the new city queen will bring as the incumbent has been idle, with nothing to show but her crown.
