The organizers have since said they are pleased with the creative and dedicated designers who came to the auditions to be part of the historic event.
“Their coming to auditions is a stepping stone to bigger and better things to come as we work together in growing the Malawi Fashion Industry.
“We recommend fashion designers in Malawi to take this [fashion designing] as a career not a hobby, so they have to invest time, dedication and resources,” reads a statement from MFW PR desk made available to Nyasa Times.
Meanwhile, the MFW organisers have lined up a number of pre-events to hype up the 2013 fashion week.
“We are calling [these] Malawi Fashion Week Nights and we will have six events, three in Lilongwe and three in Blantyre.”
The first two are on this weekend, in Lilongwe on Friday, 29 March, at the Living Room next to Zanzi and then in Blantyre at Club Lucky Lucianos on Saturday, 30th March.
“There will be lots of exciting activities, with performances by Lulu at both shows. People have to dress to impress because there will be Fashion Police everywhere. Those who will commit fashion crimes will be taken captive and be charged K200 to be set free.”
