The subscription price has been increased from K3,400 to K3,800 for the GOtv Value bouquet and from K4,700 K 5200 for the GOtv Plus bouquet. Multichoice Malawi Sales and Marketing Manager, Chimwemwe Nyirenda said the increase was due to depreciation of Kwacha as well as a rise in operation costs. ''This Malawi Kwacha subscription price increase is necessitated by the increase in operating costs for Broadcasting which uses a lot of electrical energy,'' explained Nyirenda. He added: ''And the loss of value of the Malawi Kwacha against the US$ which affects license fees and the purchase cost of programming''. Asked if the increment will not have any effect on customers, Nyirenda said they had already considered their subscribers before coming up with the subscription price change. ''In determining the price increase various factors are taken into account, including the impact on the subscriber and we do not make these decisions without due consideration''. GOtv subscribers have of late witnessed a removal of some channels including One Gospel and BET2- which will be removed from 1st December. However, Nyirenda defended the decision, saying channels are removed or added to ensure subscribers get a balanced variety of programming. ''MultiChoice reserves the right to add or remove channels when assessing the performance and viability of channels on the platform. ''To facilitate a review of the content and achieve a diverse variety of programming, we took a decision to remove or add  channels  In reviewing our offering - which we do on a continual basis''. On signal challenges, he said some customers do not always understand the technicalities of installing the antenna correctly which leads to poor reception. ''We have invested a lot in training GOtv Mmisili people who can help the subscribers with technical difficulties''. Founded on January 18, 2013, GOtv is regarded as one of the cheapest pay television which has over 29 great channels, from religion series, documentaries, drama, politics, sports and music among others. GOtv is a product of Multichoice Malawi which is a new pay television aimed at providing great family entertainment and it is Africa first pay television operating using the next generation of Digital Video Broadcast standard (DVB). GOtv is available in Malawi, Zambia, Uganda, Nigeria and Kenya among other countries.
