Lilongwe-based songbird Lilia has joined Africa’s biggest singing competition, Airtel TRACE Music Star which is currently underway.

The singer made the announcement on social media while asking the public to vote for her.
She wrote, “Let’s get Malawi on the map. Vote for Carol Lilia Mataya, Airtel Airtel TRACE Music Star, SMS 65210235 to 59911, let’s show Africa Malawi has talent. Show love, support!! God bless.”
She further added, “Help me become the 1st Airtel TRACE Music Star. Call 59911 and enter my song code 65210235 or SMS 65210235 to 59911, show your girl some love and support fam!! Bless.”
In an interview, Lilia appealed for hard work from her fellow female singers saying she has only seen a handful of females working hard.
“I am one of the many that hasn’t used their talent to do wonders. It’s time we take the God given talent to places, put Malawi on the map with what we have. As females we are the future we need to clear the path for the next musical generation and we can’t do that by just singing in the shower,” she advised.
Lilia went on to say if there is a chance to put talent out there, one has to grasp it, use it, and exploit it.
This season’s winner will stand a chance to be coached by American R&B superstar Kelly Hilson and a big record deal is also up for grabs.
