"In my role as an artist, I am constantly reminded about how well regarded Malawian art is when it comes to global cultural arts and the impact that Malawian arts, expressed in different forms, have around the world.

I’m not a Satanist, Skeffa: Malawi musician hits at claims he worships the devil
One of Malawi’s top musician Skeffa Chimoto has hit back at claims that he worships the devil, saying he is in fact a Christian and that reports going viral on social media that he confessed being a member of a cult are false rumours and malicious.
[caption id="attachment_94488" align="alignright" width="600"] Skeffa: I am not a Satanist[/caption]
The leader of Real Sounds band and also an ambassador for youths, rejected reports that he gave a radio interview where he claimed that he used to be a Satanist alongside other musicians.
Skeffa said such reports are “false”.
“I have never been a Satanist, never,” said Skeffa.
The artist took to Facebook to express his displeasure to the rumours and blamed people who do not wish him well for spreading them.
“Let me say thank you to all the people that have shown interest to know the truth about the radio programme that other people are saying I had with one of the radio stations in Blantyre. The truth is; I haven’t been to any radio station in the past ten months or so.
“The last radio programme I had been at Galaxy FM in Lilongwe and it was a phone in programme during the time of floods last year when musicians organised a show at Lilongwe Golf Club and I was one of the artists that were chosen to promote the show.
“So, everything you are hearing is totally fake, for what reason I don’t know. If you want to know the truth about this, ask those who have listened to it and ask them which radio station was it. You can go to that radio and ask them if I once had such a programme with them. It has never been my wish to please everybody in my works because I know that is never possible. I know that when some people somewhere hate me, there are also many that love my work,” he said.
He added: “I don’t wish anything bad to all those who always dream bad about me and my work. If anything, I pray to God that he reminds them that it’s a sin to tarnish an innocent person’s image.”

Piksy’s Chitosi fails to mask the scent of ‘Miracle Money’
It is a battle of microphones between two giant urban music artists namely Piksy and Onesimus Muzik, with the recent bout being induced by the latter’s recent production – Miracle Money.
[caption id="attachment_100596" align="alignright" width="600"] Onesimus | Miracle Money[/caption]
[caption id="attachment_88030" align="alignright" width="600"] Piksy: Chitosi[/caption]
The hit, which is housed in an album titled Epikaizo, invaded the music entertainment sphere with energetic wave sending tongues wagging both on social media and streets.
According to records, the song has been the fastest downloaded music, so far, in the history of Malawi Music website since its inception in 2011. Due to the massive inflow of downloaders the website was ‘çhocked’ at least twice during the day of its upload. The website breakdowns were reportedly intermittent over a period of first Eight hours.
The breakdowns, which were confirmed by the website, were reportedly due to unexpected inflow of viewers and downloads that went beyond its carrying capacity.
In celebration of its marketing success, the promoter of the artist, Kelvin Sulugwe challenged that “should there be any promoter who will beat this record within the next three months, I will give that promoter One Hundred Thousand Malawi Kwacha”.
As the dust for the Miracle Money hit continued to whirl the airspace, another gigantic name in the urban music community, who is has recently been sharing beefs with Onesimus, released his single which was geared to run neck-to-neck with the Miracle Money.
Piksy teamed up with Annie Matumbi and Junior C and called their single “Chitosi”. However, the Chitosi track failed to reach out the bar that was set forth by Miracle Money.
While Miracle Money had achieved 13, 974 in 12 hours since its upload, Chitosi attracted 4, 673 downloads in a similar time frame.
By 24 hour benchmark, Miracle Money was running with miracle downloads to a total of 20, 970. On the other hand, Chitosi by Piksy generated a total of 7, 404 by 24 hours of its upload.
The battle between the two former buddies started when Onesimus renounced his inclination to secular music by switching to gospel production. With the main gist of the ongoing battle between the two still under wraps, the adversary was paraded before the public when Onesimus reacted to “Mthunzi” one of the many great hits that Piksy produced.
In his reaction, through Facebook post, Onesimus who was otherwise known as Armstrong during his secular days pulled the curtains down heralding the content of the track to be aiming at him – perhaps based on what was going on behind the scenes.
Meanwhile, while standing at 40, 000 plus downloads, Miracle Money is enjoying its top position on the Malawi Music top 10 chat while Piksy announces to release yet another song in a gesture that could be presumed an effort to replace his “Chitosi” which has failed to spray down the scent spread by the Miracle Money.

“We share ideas, dine together and make plans together. The royal family is a whole new different approach. We introduced the powerful singer sir Patrick's and also the composition of songs is different from the previous project. The response is massive as there are already many pre orders from a lot of people,” Zeleza boasted.

Asked on the rumour that Juda Gaga has left the group, Zeleza explained, “Juda Gaga is still around and she appears in 6 songs on the album.
“She has been busy with school so we realized her education was more important so she needed to concentrate on it than appear on the promo singles and go with us on shows. She is 100% a trap member.”
There are 5 artists in trap Squad. Revolver, a rapper, an accountant/auditor , Stich fray an entrepreneur who runs D n T companies, Chavura, a rapper, a graduate in fisheries degree, Sir Patrick's a business person/professional singer and Juda Gaga, a rapper, a student at Blantyre international university.

Drew speaks on Malawi music struggle

“ We have a lot to learn in terms of production and management, of which these two are the key to any artist´s success. What we are missing is exposure,” Drew noted.
Asked about his silence on the local scene, Drew rebuffed: “I have not been quiet on the music scene actually; I think it all depends on where you are asking.

If I have to describe the link between the chosen title and the content of the Album,” he disclosed.
He couldn’t help but point out that he has transformed to playing his own music just like all the big names like David Guetta, Dj Cleo, Skrillex and many more, he added, “I have been playing a lot of gigs in nightclubs since moving to Europe and just recently I had a Launch Party Concert for my EP in Oslo which was a great event.”

Tiwonge Mhango returns home after 17 years in US: Cuts single with Young Kay
East or west, far and wide they say home is best! After spending 17 years in the US without visiting Malawi, Tiwonge Mhango returns home on Thursday this week and has since cut an anthem with charismatic rapper Young Kay to reunite with his roots.
“I am so excited to step back in Malawi. It has been long yes but finally, God has made it possible for me to be back home after spending almost two decades in a foreign land,” said the Atlanta based musician-cum-businessman.
The Turn It Up and Shine singer said he decided to rope in Young Kay to celebrate his home coming and enable him reconnect with the local music industry.
“Young Kay is one talented guy I have always respected. I must admit that it has been exciting to do a collabo with this dude. I am sure there will be many more projects we shall work together on and engage other local artists too,” he said.
Commenting on the local industry, Tiwonge said urban music in Malawi has grown tremendously and that the internet has escalated its spread beyond the borders.
“There is a great deal of talent in Malawi in as far as music is concerned. It is just a matter of time before the world wakes up to appreciate this reality,” observed Tiwonge.
In an interview, Young Kay said he does not take it for granted to be recognised by an experienced musician of Tiwonge’s calibre.
“To me, it is a great honour to work on a collabo with Tiwonge. These are some of the guys that pioneered the movement of urban music in Malawi way back in the late 90s.
“It has been a defining moment and am looking forward to more projects as we exchange knowledge and expertise to uplift our talents,” explained the rapper.
The track titled ‘Mbuye, Mbuye’ is currently billed to be available for premiering and downloads on Friday this week. The instrumentation of the song comprises a fusion of the African beat, R&B and elements of soft pop.
In the track, Mhango basically thanks God for his endless love, mercy and success.
Before leaving for the US in the late 90s, Tiwonge and his brother Gift Mhango set the urban music charts on fire with their legendary Turn It Up song which was an anthem of that generation.
Whilst in Malawi, Mhango plans to shoot a video with Young Kay before he goes back to his base in Georgia where he is reported to be a successful businessman in logistics and transportation.
Tiwonge has an album to his credit, Shine, which was released in 2009 and comprised hits which dominated local airwaves like the title track, Kulibe, Pamtetete and Send Your Fire.
He started his musical journey at a tender age as he was a member of the now defunct Mhango Salvation singers, with his brother Revered Chimwemwe Mhango leading the family choir.
