At the end of the intense and exciting singing battle at Sunbird Mount Soche hotel in Blantyre, the ladies still reign. Madalitso Faziri, Ruth Kulaisi, Triza Chatata, Kalista Kalele and Chisomo Theteka are the finalists who will fight for the K10 million national prize and ultimately a place at the pan-African grand finale in Nigeria. During the live performances on Sunday, the three judges were looking at the originality, voice quality, range and pitch as well as the contenders’ expressiveness. Meanwhile the general public will continue voting for their favourite contestants to win the number one spot among the top five. Airtel Malawi have since expressed their satisfaction with the level of competition in this year’s edition. “We are very impressed. Hearing the entries we had to come up with the top 10 and the performances on Sunday were outstanding. “It has been a tough competition but the judges did their best to come up with the top 5,” said Airtel Malawi brand and communications manager Isabel Kachinjika. The event on Sunday was hosted by Times TV personalities Mr 265 and Wezi Kasambara. Hip hop superstar Tay Grin and dancehall whiz Blakjak also made special appearances, with the Nyau King performing Proudly African and the latest Chipapapa, while Che Kalonda dished out Yes or No and Indetu.
