The Story Club Mzuzu is a grouping of story tellers in the city including journalists, poets, short story writers and tellers, and all that can tell stories.
The session will feature Malawi’s celebrated poet, academic and writer Ndongolera Christopher Mwangupili as guest writer.
Mwangupili, an internationally published writer, will present a paper on Living Our Writing in Malawi: Lessons and Experiences.
According to Mzuzu Story Club coordinator Pius Nyondo, the event will be “some sort of discussion.”
Other veteran writers invited but yet to confirm include retired professors David Rubadiri and Felix Mnthali – both acclaimed poets and essayists by reputation.
Award winning journalist and Nation Publications Limited (NPL) northern region bureau supervisor is also expected to grace the occasion.
Nyondo added the event will also include pupils from “selected” secondary schools in Mzuzu City and around.
“Success Series Group are the official sponsors,” said Nyondo. “Much as we’ve gotten support from elsewhere.”
Success Series Group deals in electronics business in Malawi, and is well known for linking young Malawians to business associates in China.
Nyondo added the event will be spiced by poetry from the Poetry Association of Malawi (PAM).
“But we must sincerely thank Jacaranda for the free space,” he said.
Jacaranda Lifestyle Lounge is owned by Takudziwani Chokani [of the Black Missionaries Band fame] and his wife Chigomezgo Gondwe [a poet].
The Story Club itself was founded by Shadreck Chikoti – a Malawian award winning writer and intellectual in 2013.
