Poet Robert Chiwamba will this Sunday be in Lilongwe to launch his newest poetry release “KwaMayiChiwamba”. [caption id="attachment_80306" align="alignright" width="423"]Chiwamba Chiwamba[/caption] This will be the second launch after the project was unveiled in Blantyre at the Chrichi Multipurpose Gardens last Sunday. The second launch of the 33-audio poetry CD is scheduled to take place at the Capital City Motel and the event will start at 1:00pm. Chiwamba, who described the Blantyre launch a success, said he was looking forward to the Lilongwe show. “I am expecting even a better performance in Lilongwe,” said Chiwamba. “The Blantyre show went on perfect as planned. The turn up was impressive, all guest artists honoured their invitations. Above all people were satisfied with the performances.” As exciting as the show in the commercial city was, with musicians GidesiChalamanda, Davis Njobvu and his fellow poets spicing up the event, Chiwamba’s promises more fireworks in the capital city. He indicated that all guest artists who include Lulu, Joseph Madzedze, Hudson Chamasowa, Mr Malawi, Aunt Gate and MadaNyambo plus Mtendere Dancing Group were geared for their performances. In Blantyre, Chiwamba sold the first CD of his new project at K100,000, besides sellingover two hundred copies at K1,500 each. He expects to sell more copies in the capital city. “KwaMayiChiwamba” is the poet’s second audio poetry release after the 2012 “Chanco Munthawi Yanga”. Some of the compositions making the new project are “Pampanda”, “Malemu wa nd Ndalama Zanga”, “BP Yanga Yakwera”, “Takumanapanondi pa Msika” and “Kukhala Mmalawi ndi kulimbaMtima”. “KwaMayiChiwamba”, which he says is dedicated to hismother, is inspired by everyday life experiences. The project was recorded by audio producers Uncle Layi and Marvin Hankeat Audio Clinic Studios in Blantyre. Robert Chiwamba has quickly established himself on Malawi’s poetry landscape commanding a large following from both the youth and adults. He can write, arrange and recite in both English and Chichewa, although he has specialized and is mostly known for his native Chichewa verses for easy understanding and communication of messages carried in his poems, considering Malawi’s high illiteracy levels.
