Malawi Awards UK 2016 dates, venue announced: Nominations open

Malawi Association UK (MAUK) has announced that the glitzy and glamorous Malawi Achievers Award (MAA) an annual event that is organised to recognise and appreciate deserving Malawians in the UK for their altruistic service and noble contributions to the society will be held on April 16, 2016 at the CSN International Exhibition and Conference Centre in Birmingham.  awards 2016 MAA Project coordinator Felix Banda told Nyasa Times  that that this year’s red carpet event, the third edition of the ‘Malawi version of the Oscars,’ will not only be better but will be the biggest event ever in history for Malawians in the UK. “We are pleased to announce that this year’s Malawi Achievers Award will be held in Birmingham at the purpose-built CSN International Exhibition Centre which is located at the 238 Highgate Rd, Birmingham B12 8EA, United Kingdom, on 16th April, 2016. We are proud to pronounce that this year’s event is going to be bigger and better,” said Banda. “We are therefore inviting all Diaspora Malawians in the UK, friends of Malawi and all other nationalities to join us as we celebrate industrious and deserving Malawians who make positive contribution to the communities both in the UK and back home in Malawi. We promise Malawians and all and sundry that this year’s event will be epic,” added Banda. Banda who is popularly known as ‘Felie B’ among his peers disclosed that this year’s auspicious occasion will attract a surprise package of entertainers who will include some big names in the entertainment industry. “This year’s Malawi Achievers Awards will be the best. In the past two years, we have learnt a lot and this time we will give the patrons a good run of their money,” he said. “ We are leaving no stone unturned to entertain the patrons to the event to the max. We have a big surprise guest artist who will headline the show to ensure that those in attendance will not starve of good entertainment,”  declared another official in MAA Cosagne Kachingwe. ‘Improved service delivery’ Meanwhile, Malawi Association UK, the organisers have said the award’s nominations and online ticket sales are now opened and that Malawians, friends of Malawi and everybody else willing to attend the event should visit Malawi Achievers Awards website now and do the needful to avoid disappointments later. “The Awards nominations and online ticket sales started on 1st January 2016, the New Year’s Day. To purchase a ticket or to nominate all they need to do is but log in to www.malawiachieversawards.uk,” explained Banda. Speaking in a separate interview, chairperson for the Malawi Association UK, Martin Guga who is Malawi Achievers Awards head of Information Technology (IT) divulged that MAA has improved and updated its website for quality service delivery and easy access. Said Guga: “Please visit the newly upgraded Malawi Achievers Awards website to nominate, guidelines procedures and to further familiarise yourself with the Awards. This time around, we have made it easy and user friendly and again, we have also added new features to it.” Guga, himself a software developer and an IT specialist further, s disclosed that the new website gives users an opportunity to choose a table and whom they may want to seat with in advance during the event. “We have improved everything and we are making sure that everything all good. We want to give our patrons nothing but the best. We would like to celebrate them and their achievements but we would also like to honour them for their benevolence and selflessness,” said Chiumia who is also Malawi Association UK vice chairperson. Chiumia said those Malawians who needs to be honoured can be of any age, from any walk of life and from any part of the United Kingdom. “We are looking for ordinary Malawians doing extraordinary things for their communities, society and country or even the world. If you know a Malawian child or adult who has displayed remarkable courage, a gutsy neighbour who has improved your area, a tireless charity fund-raiser or campaigner or an exemplary student, or outstanding business entrepreneurs who addresses or supports Malawians community services and needs or role models who have given up their time to help others bring them on for an award,” said Chiumia. Chiumia, however, appealed to business community for support. “We are appealing to the business community to support us in this cause. We are looking for partners from the business sector to celebrate Malawians who dedicate themselves for the service of other people especially the vulnerable and disadvantaged,” explained Chiumia. Stepson Mbewe, MAA Chief Executive Officer and MAUK Secretary General said Malawi Association UK would like to register appreciation to everyone for their continuous support. “We greatly appreciate for the financial support from, Just Trading Scotland, Air Malawi Cargo, Crown and Law Solicitors, 2ways Solutions, Power Global Radio, against all Odds, Nyasa Times Media Group, First Response Group, Radio 24/7 Malawi, Liberty Immigration Services, Scotland - Malawi Partnership.” Mbewe also disclosed that Africa’s flagship airline, Ethiopian Airline has agreed to support the Malawi Awards 2016. The organisers say charges to this year’s event remain unchanged. MAA treasurer general Gertrude Banda said the proceeds from the Malawi Awards have supported charities like Ndi Moyo Palliative Care Trust in Salima, Malawi. Ndi Moyo Palliative Care Trust provides care to patients suffering from HIV/AIDS, and other life-limiting illnesses. MAUK financial assistance helped to buy medicine to last between 3 to 6 months, Banda said.
