Hedisclosed this in an interview from Windhoek, Namibia, where has been working on the 11-track album with Namibian and Zimbabwean producers.
“We have finalized all the recordings and mixing,” said the singer on Monday. “We will now be sending the project to South Africa for mastering.”
Sangwani, who released his previous album Themba six years ago, said his latest project is “a step high” from the 2009 recording.
“I really took time on this project and it has been a lot of work. It’s a powerful album, from the message and artistically, it will change lives,” he said of the material that took three months of studio work.
He added: “Mostly the album carriesthe message of hope to those who are in predicament and is wholly inspired by the word of God.”
According to his manager Vitumbiko Mumba, fans should expect to hear Sangwani’s new material by the end of January.
“Once mastering is done we will be selecting few numbers which will go on radio and Sangwani’s website to give the people a feel of the work coming,” Mumba unveiled.
Mumba, a Malawian based in Namibia, indicated “We developed Sangwani’s website to take advantage of technology to market the artistoutside the boarders of Malawi as we market him within.”
“It is paramount that Malawian artists such as Sangwani break into the international stage. Some have already done that, but there is need to have more. With the website it becomes easy to market Sangwani to international events organisers,” he added.
Sangwani's music is termed advanced afro contemporary (Adfroc). It is the fusion of afro pop, afro jazz and Malawian beats.
Born in 1975, Sangwani’s passion for music started while he was still young. He used to imitate the then Malawian local bands, such as Makasu, with his friends.
In 1988, he met Mahara Mhango (formerly Gift Mhango) of the then Mhango Salvation Singers. It was during this time that his passion for music developed further.
Reverend Chimwemwe Mhango, the brother to Mahara, noticed Sangwani’s music potential and took him as a backing vocalist until 2000.
From 2000 he started writing his own songs and released his first album Mahomwa gha Fumu in 2003.
In between 2000 to 2003, he stayed with Mte Wambali Mkandawire, the Malawian Adfroc maestro. It was during this period that he got inspired as to which genre of music he should take.
