A new reality Television show, Rise Africa is born in Malawi with an aim of providing solutions to everyday problems that Malawi as a country faces and Africa .
The reality TV show will, according to Rise Africa Public Relations officer Mercy Malinga, also seek to entertain and educate the audience with its tailor made thematic content.
"The reality show which will be cut into different episodes will contain a number of community based intervention on the various issues that have hindered the country’s progress.
"The show will pick nine promising candidates from the three regions of Malawi withoutdiscrimination," she said.
According to Malinga, who is a renowned actress and among others stars in Choices, which screens on Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) and Zambezi Magic, the selection period will air for six to eight weeks.
Then the 27 candidates will come together be put in groups and given tasks. Depending on how well they have performed the audience will vote which group to be eliminated until the show has a total of ten contestants who will go into the Rising Africa use.
"For the remaining four weeks two contestants will be eliminated weekly until the final two. It will be up to the audience to decide who wins,”said Malinga whose career in arts started long time ago mostly at the age of 10 and with Tilitonse she acted as Upile Shumba, Zimachitika as Judith, Timveni as Chisomo, and at Tikuferanji she has been acting as Mwandida (Mwandix).
The reality TV show will bring people who are experts in the fields to judge and shed light on the facts.
"The show will ensure that there is much touched on issues affect our society, nation and southern Africa. It will also clear-out the local inhabitant’s social responsibilities and give back to the community through edutainment," said Malinga
In addition, the show with the powerful use of the video Reality TV captured on HD/LED cameras and aired during premium time will enhance public awareness and provide a plat form that will spur communities to actively take part in national development.
So far, Zdoaik TV and Inno Pictures Inc are compelled to facilitate the completion of the Reality TV show.
Inno Pictures Inc is a non-governmental organisation which is a member of among others Film Association of Malawi (Fama) and Theatre Association of Malawi (Ntam).
Malinga said the reality TV show will include but not limit itself to what is Malawian like Entrepreneurship, Corruption, Judicial sentencing for offenders Registration Identification system, Cash gate, HIV /AIDS, Homosexuality, prophets in Malawi, Sanitation, Community college demonstration, Safe motherhood and Environment.
Code Sangala and Susan Kankosi Banda are the presenters of the show which is expected to kick start in march.
The auditions will be conducted in February.
So far, Crossroads hotel has provided the venue for the launch of the show and also that the eviction show will be held at the same venue.
Currently, forms for registration will be in all the three regions at an affordable fee by using Airtel money and Mpamba and Zoona and can be also accessed on the Internet and banking system
Malinga has also been featured in some stage productions with Nanzikambe and lions theatre, she is currently on Choices TV series and also on Zambezi magic Dstv channel 160.
